Al and I decided to go to Empire this weekend and do the Dune Climb at the Sleeping Bear Dune National Lakeshore.   Last time we went (several years ago and 40 lbs heavier), I could only get up to the first crest.   I not only made it to the VERY top with a minimum of huffing and puffing, but did it after running 2.25 miles before we left.    After that, we decided to hike the Dune Trail and had NO idea what we were in for.  We went up and down 9 big dunes (not including THE dune climb) before we got to the shore.   Round trip it took about 3 hours, not including the nap we had to take once we arrived 🙂   When we got home, we actually found more information about it in the book “50 Hikes in Michigan.”   It actually was 4.5 miles according to the authors and was rated strenuous.   No kidding!

Even though it wasn’t warm, it was a beautiful sunny day.  I’ll take a look at the photos later this week when I get home.   I’m actually hoping to go to Empire Bluffs (the other place that was on my list this weekend before our impromtu hike) sometime this week….

I’ll post another day of our Indonesia trip this week…
