Funny Conversation

Normally I don’t post these, but it was so funny, I had to.

Lil Bit:  Daddy, talk!
Daddy:  Talk?
Lil Bit:  Yes, talk!

some playing resumes

Daddy:  Talk, Dagny, Talk.
Lil Bit:  No, Daddy.  I shut up.  I shut up.

I don’t even know where “shut up” came from…we don’t use it!

A weird epiphany…

Well, maybe it’s not really an epiphany, but I don’t know what else to call it.  It’s been a profound kind of weekend for both Bones AND I.

Anyway, I’ve been reading two books this break.   First, I’ve been reading Problogger‘s 31 Days to a Better Blog e-book.  Concurrently, I’ve been reading a Mother’s Rule of Life.  I thumbed through Problogger’s book over the last week and started working on my elevator speech on the drive to my family’s on Wednesday.

While I was refining the purpose of my blog for the elevator speech, I ended up tying it in with the MROL to redefine my purpose.   I don’t know that any of you (all 4 of you :D ) will notice a difference in the types of content per se, but there may be less as I am trying to balance life with internet.   I feel differently about it and I’m hoping that it will come out in more quality posts and writing.

Anyway, I just felt the need get that out.

In other news, the 31 days to a better blog ebook ROCKS!   I’m going to LOVE  working on the exercises.   Go check it out.    Also, I’m going to be having a Mother’s Rule of Life book study starting in January.  I’ll make a bigger announcement after I figure out how to make a non-hideous button for it :)    Wish me luck!

From Today’s Reading…

I was in church today and I this caught my ear from the second reading (2 Corinthians 8:15):

As it is written: He that had much, had nothing over; and he that had little, had no want.

In other words, God gives us all what we need and what he wants us to have…no more, no less.   So if we don’t have as much as someone else, we should not be jealous or covetous of more.   If we have more than another, we are to be grateful for what we do have and share with others.

That’s a beautiful way to think about what we have…I need to keep this near the top of my head.   Contentment is always hard for me.

An epiphany

I’ve been struggling with keeping my counters and other surfaces clutter free for quite a long time.    They seem to have their own gravitational pull!   They were clean in early-May and until yesterday, they were a disaster again.    I “cleaned” yesterday and put the bread maker away and got rid of the knife block thinking that stuff on the counter = more stuff on the counter.

After cleaning out the under-stair storage yesterday, I came upstairs and found the clothes that I needed to return strewn about the floor.   Then it hit me.    Dagny!    That’s why my surfaces are always covered in stuff.    Before I had her, my surfaces were clean because I piled things on the floor.   Now I have to pile things higher so she doesn’t get into them.

Now I just need to figure out how to stop generating piles of stuff to deal with.    And here I thought I was making progress but I’m just shuffling around piles.   sigh….

If you have any tips for dealing with the myriad of junk that comes into ones home, particularly if you have a piler tendancy, please share!

My First Bike

Mom Blogs
One of my FAVORITE websites, 5 Minutes for Mom, is giving away a Strider Running Bike selected from people who write a blog post about your first bike.    Go here for more information and to enter!

I still remember my first bike.   I was a pink Schwinn with a white banana seat with little yellow and pink flowers.    It had a white basket on the handlebars and had pedal brakes.    It was also a 24″ bike.   I was 5.    It was WAAAAAY too big for me (I think dad had bought it).   I remember he put blocks of wood on both sides of the pedals with black electrical tape so that I could reach them.    I must have still had a hard time, even with training wheels because I remember having a smaller purple bike later and then getting the pink one back.     That pink bike was the last bike I had before I moved to college and got my Huffy 20-speed (which I am still using).

What was your first bike?    Do you still have it?
