Are you the adventurous sort or do you live vicariously through books? I live it more through books, but there are a few places in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (the U.P.), that I’ve always wanted to go to.

Get your copy of SILENCED by Author Dani Pettrey!

Silenced, the newest release in the Alaskan Courage series from Dani Pettrey, is full of weddings. And murders and deadly deeds, of course. It is a suspense novel after all. While Cole & Bailey and Piper & Gage are busy tying their respective knots, Kayden and Jake are finding their own Alaskan romance, dodging rocks from killers and from their own hearts as the break down years of walls & barriers designed to keep others out.

As always, the setting, intrigue and characters are top notch!  There were plenty of twists and turns in this book that were unexpected and she did a fabulous job of leading you one direction and then veering off slightly.  Nothing seemed ludicrous or out of whack and I love how effortlessly the Christian elements were woven in.  I hate when it’s too overdone or feels like an afterthought.  After reading the other 3 novels in the Alaskan Courage series I’m in love with the characters–I can’t wait to read the story of “bad boy” Reef!

In honor of the honeymooning Cole & Bailey, here are 3 Michigan honeymoon spots for the Adventurous couple.

1. Pictured Rocks, Munising

Seeing that the happy honeymooners in the book are from Alaska, even cold Northern Michigan winters (or summers) should be easy to handle. The Pictured Rocks are beautiful rock cliff formations on the edge of Lake Superior. While you cannot climb up them, there are miles of beautiful hikes, waterfalls, and secluded rustic campgrounds. Its also a favorite of kayakers; but be sure to bring your wet suit. there was still ice on the shores of Lake Superior on Memorial Day Weekend. If you want to go hard core, you can do ice climbing in winter!

2. Isle Royale, Lake Superior

This large island in the middle of Lake Superior is as rustic as it gets. It’s a 3 hour trip minimum (by ferry) just to get to Isle Royale. The only other way in is by plane. There is a small community on the island and plenty of trails for hiking, lake to kayak in, and moose to spot. Maybe this would be better for Piper? No wheeled vehicles allowed except for wheelchairs. Ferries come every day in July & August and less frequently after that.

3. U.P. Ghost Towns

Due to the mining operations that once dotted the Upper Peninsula’s landscape, it is now full of ghost towns. Most of them are located along US 41 up to Copper Harbor so they would be easy to visit on the way up ( or down) from Isle Royale. You can find more information on the UP Ghost Towns here, as well a a map with approximate locations.

If you are the adventurous type, what would you recommend for Michigan-bound honeymooners?
