5 Tips for Looking Fabulous Beach Vacation Busy Moms

Since we’ve had such a non-summer this year, we’ve decided to extend it a bit by going south for a few weeks. We hit Disney, spent lots of time at the hotel pools, and generally just relaxed and enjoyed each others company.

For better or worse, my attitude & appearance speak for motherhood to those who have not had children yet. Because of this (and the fact hubby likes it A LOT!), I make sure I look better at the beach or at the pool than I did in high school or college. Here are 5 functional things that will make even the busiest mom look fab at the beach or pool!

1. Swimsuit

Duh, right? Well when was the last time you replaced your swimsuit? How much did you spend on it? A cheap K-Mart swimsuit is not going to help you look your best. I love the tankini I bought from Land’s End, but many places make flattering swimsuits. Look for things like ruching, slimming panels, skirts and more. If you aren’t sure what shapes, types or necklines are flattering for your figure check out this article at Skinny Mom.

2. Cover Up

Get a flattering cover up. You can find one everywhere from Walmart to Nordstrom. The popular pick for the last few years has been a lightweight tunic. I happened to have had one too big & sheer for normal wear that was awesome as a swim cover up. I also have pareo’s (and a guide to different ties I purchased in the South Pacific). Some are partial to terry robe things, but frankly, they aren’t super attractive IMHO. There are cute dress style cover-ups, too. Pick one & go for it; you might still be able to find one on clearance!

3. Cute Sandals

Again, if you are shopping now, you can probably find cute ones on clearance. The gladiator style or fancy beaded flip flops add a lot of glamour and are just as practical. I’m only wearing my Old Navy flip flops, but I’m highlighting my…

4. Pedicure

Make sure you paint your piggies if you are taking a beach/pool vacay. My cheapo pool flops are royal blue and I made my pedi stick out with a gorgeous hot pink (Avery from Julep, if you are wondering–it’s in the photo above). Pick a color that is a great contrast to your wardrobe and shoes if possible. Looking good is almost always in the details.

5. Cute accessories

Finally, have some cute accessories. I always pack a cute sun hat to protect the skin on my face and shade my eyes from glare. Remember to pack your favorite pair of sunglasses and a chic beach tote. Just because it has floaties and swim diapers in it instead of a book, doesn’t mean everything you own has to scream mom :). You were a woman first and when the kids are gone, you will be a woman again. Don’t forget!
