Dr. Seuss eBook Apps on Sale {Product Review}

This was originally posted on another blog of mine (Happy Homemaker Reviews).   I consolidated them to continue to simplify my life.   – Jen  (04.2012)

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I love books. My husband loves books. And we have raised a voracious book lover. Unfortunately, I don’t always get to read as many books as she would like us to. Because of that, I was super excited to have found these great ebook apps called omBooks by Oceanhouse Media.

Oceanhouse Media is a publisher of children’s ebook apps for the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad & Android. They have tons of children’s omBooks and release new ones all the time.

I was sent codes to review 2 omBook titles– The Bedtime Battle (Berenstein Bears) and Oh, The Thinks You Can Think (Dr. Seuss). OmBooks each have 3 options for reading — AutoPlay, Read To Me & Read It Myself. My daughter is 3-1/2 and is starting to be interested in the idea that the letters and words mean something. These will be great to help her curiosity with that. In the Read To Me feature, the app highlights the words as its telling the story.

Each book was exactly as the author wrote it with the original illustrations, too. While reading, you can tap word or pictures and it will show AND say the word, helping budding readers with their favorite books. I like that these omBooks are so authentic. They are so good that I think they were even READ how the authors (Dr. Seuss, especially) would have liked. The only thing that I didn’t like about the apps is that they were a little slow on my smaller, older iPhone 3GS.

Oceanhouse Media has many Dr. Seuss & Berenstein Bears titles, as well as Little Critter, Five Monkeys and more!

Buy It!

Check out all their titles at www.oceanhousemedia.com. If you have an Apple product, you can purchase omBooks from the AppStore. if you have an Android, you can go to the Amazon AppStore. Most titles cost about $3.99.

BUT. Of course there is a but :) . Oceanhouse Media is having a huge sale on Dr. Seuss titles.

For a five week period, from August 29 through October 2, a new selection of omBooks will be on sale each week for $1.99. Visit the Oceanhouse Media Facebook page each Monday to find out which omBooks will be on sale that week.

This week’s sale includes the following Dr. Seuss classics:
  • Oh Say Can You Say? (released today)
  • Dr. Seuss’s ABC
  • Green Eggs and Ham
  • The Cat in the Hat
  • The Cat in the Hat Comes Back
  • I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!
  • One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish
  • Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?
  • There’s A Wocket in My Pocket!
  • Fox in Socks

I’ve already purchased Oh Say Can You Say which is my all time favorite. I practically have it memorized & yes, I’m quick on the tongue-twisters :) .  I plan on getting a few more this week, too.

Which Dr. Seuss book is YOUR favorite?

{CLOSED} Lovable Labels {Review & Giveaway}

This was originally posted on another blog of mine (Happy Homemaker Reviews).   I consolidated them to continue to simplify my life.   – Jen  (04.2012)

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Now that my little girl is getting older, I can take her places where I am not.   That also means, though, that she is responsible for her own things.   She’s not quite four and so that means that stuff gets left behind.   Thank goodness for Lovable Labels!

Lovable Labels are a real sanity saver for me from the time they arrive until the time we leave something somewhere :) .  I was sent a Back To School Pack and it comes with:

  • 5 Regular Sticker Labels
  • 80 Slimline Sticker Labels
  • 48 Press n’Stick Clothing DOTS
  • 12 Shoe Labels
  • 2 Mini-Metal Tags
  • 12 Square Labels

I loved that these tags came in a compact bound booklet.   Every tag I needed was all in one spot and I didn’t have to go hunting for them.  Even WITHIN the booklet, I could find what I needed.  It has these great little tabs at the top to find the type of label I needed in seconds.   It even had instructions and a pocket in the back for the mini-metal tags.

We used the mini-metal tags for her backpack and suitcase.   And the slimline stickers are even small enough to put on her umbrella staff without hindering use!   I also labeled all her things when we went to my hometown in case we left something somewhere — my mom’s, my dad’s, my grandma’s, etc.

Lovable Labels was the brainstorm of a mom who found herself in need of having to label all her sons belonging for daycare.   That means everything a child needs for a day — clothes, shoes, lunches, sippy cups, backpack, you name it!  She created labels that were durable enough to last through the everyday use of children.   Lovable Labels are

  • waterproof
  • dishwasher safe
  • microwave safe
  • washer/dryer safe
  • sun safe
  • bleach safe
  • sunscreen safe
  • and temperature safe!

She thought of everything!    Some other products that I didn’t get to try but love are the bag tags, the zip it tags, and the vital ID wristbands.

How cool is that?   You go to the mall, playground or amusement park and you can always find your child!

Kellogg’s #FiberPlus {Product Review}

This was originally posted on another blog of mine (Happy Homemaker Reviews).   I consolidated them to continue to simplify my life.   – Jen  (04.2012)

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

How do you get fiber in your diet? My husband LOVES apples but Michigan apples are only good from September until maybe March–April in a good year. He feels the difference between apple season and not apple season.

I was sent some Kellogg’s FiberPlus Antioxidants cereal to try as part of a campaign through BlogCritic. I was sent two flavors– Cinnamon Oat Crunch and Berry Yogurt Crunch. We loved the taste. In fact, my family loved it so much that I almost didn’t get to taste the Cinnamon Oat Crunch before they devoured the whole box. It was gone in 2 days.

The Cinnamon Oat Crunch had a great texture and stayed crunchy for longer than expected. It had a great cinnamon flavor, too. The Berry Yogurt Crunch had a fabulous strawberry smell that wafted out of the box when we opened it. I’m not a fan of berry or yogurt cereals but loved his one. It wasn’t too sweet and it provides a huge chunk of necessary fiber.

My husband was so happy with the extra fiber that the two boxes that were sent were decimated in 4 days. He also requested that I buy more.

There is a downside.   After 6 days of FiberPlus in a row, well, my dear husband went on strike — he wasn’t eating anymore.  He had such bad stomach pains from bloating (and lets not talk about the noises in our house) that he couldn’t take it.   There IS a warning label on the bars that tell you to gradually increase fiber intake and they are there for a reason.  I’ve found though, that eating some cereal or a bar every other day wasn’t too bad for me.

Buy It!

You can buy Kellogg’s FiberPlus Antioxidants cereal at groceries all over the country.

Dr. Seuss eBook Apps {Product Review}

We seem to spend a fair amount of time waiting. Waiting to see the doctor. Waiting for dad to run up to his office to get or drop off something. Waiting for mom to run into a store. And sometimes the girls just aren’t in the mood.

It’s nice to have an iPhone that Lil’ Bit can play games on, but playing too many games has an effect on her behavior–and not a good one! I’ve often considered children’s e-books but could never find ones I liked for a good price.

Then I discovered Oceanhouse Media’s omBooks(tm). Oceanhouse Media is a publisher of children’s ebook apps for the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad & Android. They have tons of children’s omBooks and release new ones all the time.

I was sent codes to test out 3 Dr.Seuss titles: Fox in Sox, ABC & Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?   The omBooks each had 3 options for reading — AutoPlay, Read To Me & Read It Myself. I used the AutoPlay feature on Mr. Brown with my (almost) 10 month old and she even she likes them! With parental interaction, of course :) . My other daughter is almost to the point where we are going to start learning to read and I’m sure that seeing the words highlighted in the Read To Me feature will help with that.

Each book was exactly as Dr. Seuss wrote it with the original pictures and illustrations. Not only are they authentic (I hate cheap knock offs) but you can tap word or pictures and it will show AND say the word. I believe that they were even READ how Dr. Seuss would have liked. The only thing that I didn’t like about the apps is that they were a little slow on my smaller, older iPhone 3GS.

Oceanhouse Media has many Dr. Seuss & Berenstein Bears titles, as well as Little Critter, Five Monkeys and more! I will be buying more titles (probably on my husband’s phone, too, so we both have some). When we get our iPad, we will be adding titles to that for schoolwork to mix it up a bit. These would be a great help for using technology to help strengthen reading skills.

Buy It!

Check out all their titles at www.oceanhousemedia.com. If you have an Apple product, you can purchase omBooks from the AppStore. if you have an Android, you can go to the Amazon AppStore. Most books are around $3.99 and you can get free samples of several books for free to try them out.   Check them out today!

Luau Party Games Pack {Product Review}

This was originally posted on another blog of mine (Happy Homemaker Reviews).   I consolidated them to continue to simplify my life.   – Jen  (04.2012)

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Do you like to throw parties?   Are you a good party planner?   I’m kind of mediocre.   BUT I love to have them.   I am great at picking a theme and okay at getting the paper goods/decorations and picking the food, but when it comes to having fun things to do…well, that’s where my parties fall flat.

Recently, I was given the opportunity to review the Luau Party Games Pack from Python Printable Games.    It comes with 19 printable games for kids of all ages ;) .   From the Naughty or Nice Food Game for the littles to Moo-Luau Mad Libs for the older kids to beer activities for adults, this printable game pack has a little bit for everyone.   You can even get your parents (grandparents?) in on the fun with the Hawaii Five-O Trivia game!

I like the quality of the graphics and text.   The games are PDF printable forms, so they print as high quality as they look.  I also like that they are not super graphic intensive so I don’t feel like I’m wasting a bunch of color ink.   The fact that they come with several different invites is pretty cool, too.  I consider these to be a real sanity saver.   I can see myself using these as a springboard for planning a party and also as a last minute addition :) .   I’ve been drooling over the cool Luau Decor at Oriental Trading, so I just might throw myself a Luau birthday party this summer!

Buy It!

Visit Python Printable Games to get your copy of the Luau Party Games Pack — 19 Printable Games for only $19.95.  If you sign up for their newsletter, you can also receive a free FREE Luau Party Ideas eBook.   It includes the Moo-Luau Mad Libs, the FREE Luau invitations AND a coupon for 10% off the Luau Party Games Pack, as well as party planning tips and recipes.
