carbon dating…

While DH & BIL were working on pulling down the garage again, they were able to retched-eagle date the approximate age of the structure — 1951.     They found old copies of the newspaper stuffed in the holes in the cement blocks. No wonder it looked like it wanted to fall — it’s 56 years old! Read more…

Has the line between sexy & cute been blurred?

I’ve been pondering this for several weeks now and it came to a peak last week.   I was wearing a fairly moderate business suit — no cleavage but skirt came down to just above the knees.   Add to this moderate suit, 4 inch black knee-high microfiber boots.   Grand total of skin showing?   6-9 inches around […] Read more…

R.I.P. Hedley Lamar

Our dearly beloved peach-faced lovebird, Hedley Lamar, died around 7:00pm today. http://www.flickr.com/photos/thesteeds/358865319/ Her goodnight bell ring will be much missed. She was the smartest bird we ever owned–she figured out how to get out of her cage within days. Hedley taught our budgie how to sound like her and always announced Al’s arrival home. Though […] Read more…

my hometown…

I REALLY don’t like my hometown. It’s evil. I feel it everytime I go there. It’s not outwardly, obviously evil like a Stephen King novel, but evil in a “morally wrong and no one cares or sees any problem with it” kind of way. That’s a whole different post/tyrade. Given that the town is also […] Read more…

gluttony at Christmas

Somehow it seems wrong to have a whole country full of people partaking in gluttony in celebration of the birth of Christ.   I couldn’t even resist (nor did I try, to tell the truth).    I was right back where I started on Tuesday after 4 straight days of sitting & eating – 159. But, on […] Read more…

Car “broken into”

I say broke into but really, the car was unlocked.   I haven’t had a problem since I lived in this house.   It was stupid; the feeling of violation over less than $5.00 in change and a CD holder 1/2 full of CD’s copies (I got smart after I had several $1000.00 of CD’s stolen from my car when I […] Read more…

handwritten “executive income” signs…

I’ve noticed a lot of really cheesy handwritten signs along the side of the road claiming that you can work from anywhere for “executive level income” and giving a cell number.    Please!   If you’re really getting executive level income at whatever it is you’re doing, you can afford to get better signs instead of using […] Read more…

The Dune Climb

Al and I decided to go to Empire this weekend and do the Dune Climb at the Sleeping Bear Dune National Lakeshore.   Last time we went (several years ago and 40 lbs heavier), I could only get up to the first crest.   I not only made it to the VERY top with a minimum of huffing […] Read more…

I dropped the bomb tonight…

Today I called my dad to tell him I wasn’t going to his wedding. It wasn’t the easiest thing I’ve ever done, but it feels like an incredible weight off of my shoulders–I’ve been dreading this day for years. I know he wasn’t happy–he didn’t say “I love you” when he got off the phone. […] Read more…

My only work related post–I hope.

What is it about e-mail that makes people completely illiterate?   I got 2 emails that were a full paragraph each; 3 lines and about 4 sentences but no puncuation ANYWHERE.   There are period (.) and comma (,) keys on the keyboard for a reason!   USE THEM!!! I’m getting off of my soapbox now.   Thank you for listening. Read more…
