These are a few leftovers from the last trip to the library. I think we’ll have a lot to choose from next time; it looks like a good batch.
First up, is Poinsettia and Her Family by Felicia Bond. It seems to be out of print but you can get used copies and it’s worth it. It’s a lovely story about a pig and her huge family in a little house. She is all set to have a lovely day reading her favorite book but all her favorite spots are covered in siblings. She gets mean and then the family goes out to look for a new house. She stays behind and then realizes she likes her family AND their little house. I love the message of this book.
Next is Lil’ Bit’s favorite, Seven Little Rabbits by John Becker. Bones & I, on the other hand, can’t stand it. Here is an excerpt:
Three little rabbits / Walkin’ down the road / Walkin’ down the road / Three little rabbits / Walkin’ down the road / To call on old friend toad.
One little rabbit / said she was tired / walkin’ down the road / walkin’ down the road…
I can’t even finish that page. It goes on and on and on like that. It’s the story of seven little rabbits who go for a walk, get tired, find a mole and impose on his hospitality. One by one, they get tired and go back to mole’s house. Its a VERY repetitious story.
Last up is my favorite, ABC by Quentin Blake. The illustrations are kind of irreverent and the rhymes are unusual. The most “alarming” thing I saw, was for L. L is for Legs that we wave in the air. The accompanying illustration is a bunch of people standing on their heads, including a girl in a dress (you can see her panties!). It has very original drawings and things that the letters stand for and they rhyme very well. I like it a lot. Lil’ Bit, well, at 2 I think the silliness is over her head.
And that’s what we found last week. Read more at Hope is the Word.

Thanks for joining in again this week!
