Spring Cleaning – Day 7/8

springcleaning08-1

I suppose her room wasn’t as bad as I originally thought.   DD was sick today or I probably could have finished it.

Well, maybe it was.   I just looked at the before pics again.  YIKES!

BEFORE:

I had massive, unorganized stacks of outgrown clothes that needed to be packed away and labeled.   There were also lots of blankets, burp cloths, towels, and toys to be put away.    Worst of all was all the stuff that had nothing to do with guests or DD (like sporting goods) that needed to be put elsewhere.

I won’t tell you all about how I nearly killed DD & I putting all these boxes in the closet:

I didn’t quite get the desk done, but like I said, she’s been sick today.

Here are the after photos:

Spring Cleaning – Day Six

springcleaning06-1

Yesterday, I didn’t get to participate in the day’s challenge.    DD was sick most of the weekend and I feeling a bit under the weather as well (fever and all!).    Also, my in-laws got into town Friday night and brought back most of the stuff that we left in Florida — clothes, stroller, plastic storage junk, etc.    Since we were sick, I spent yesterday putting all that stuff away and catching up on the cleaning that I didn’t do because we weren’t feeling well.

I was just going to jump in with day seven until I realized what it was.    DD’s room needs WAAAAY more than a day.    It’s kind of the dumping ground for all sorts of stuff and there are boxes of outgrown clothes, blankets, burp clothes and such needing to be packed away, all the tiny baby stuff (pack & play, swing, heirloom bassinet, etc.) PLUS all the stuff for her cousin that isn’t leaving the house until Friday.    DH’s hockey & ski equipment and my sewing machine, dumpings from the disposal of my office (lets not even go there right now).

Here is the before pic of the bathroom closet:

I thought I had done a pretty good job of purging when the camper came back from Florida and I took a bunch of stuff to the food pantry and gave the rest away to friends, but I still had some stuff to get rid of.   I had a few drawers left and when I cleaned off the counter in day one, I stuck all the junk in the closet :) .

I also removed a crappy drawer that held my sheets for three reasons.  First, I couldn’t open the drawer all the way because the middle door moulding is in the way.   Second, it made the top of the toiletry drawer too high and I couldn’t see what was in it.    Third, I couldn’t reach the stuff on TOP of the toiletry drawer, either.    So here is what it looks like now:

I would like to eventually get a board to put across the two cabinets so that I can pile stuff over the sheets.

I also cleaned almost everything, including the insides of the bathroom cabinets, the door, the floor, the WHOLE toilet (not just the inside).     I have about 1/2 the shower, the tub and I ignored the inside of the bathroom drawers and I’m okay with that.    It’s MUCH better than it was.

Here is my lovely master bathroom after all the cleaning was done:

The brushes don’t normally live on that washcloth–I just needed to wash them and well, they are still wet :) .

Safety – RoadID

How often are you out with your children without having your personal info on your person? Did you leave your purse in your car? Even if you had your phone, how does someone know who your emergency contact is in your contact list?

I found a product in a fitness magazine called RoadID.

Designed for runners (who aren’t carrying their purses either :D ), this product has your vital information on it so that if something happens, emergency personnel can get essential information. You can get a static version, where all the information you want is on the ID itself (up to 6 lines) or an interactive version like the one pictured. In the interactive version, you get to personalize the first two lines and the bottom 4 tell how to retrieve information.

So why am I telling you this when you might not be a runner? How valuable would it be to have this on while with your kids at a playground? Or going for a walk? Say you get hit by a car or have a medical emergency when you are with your small children. With the interactive version, you can not only say who you are, but can put information about your children, your emergency contact, allergies, etc.

I just purchased an interactive wrist band because you can put in multiple addresses (we go to Florida for a few months in the winter/spring), you can put in temporary notes (like, we are in vacation in Dallas from May 4 – May 10) or whatever you want. To see what you can put in your interactive profile, visit RoadID.com and view the interactive ID demo. Very cool stuff.

The RoadID comes in various forms: dog tags (called FIXX), ankle band, wrist band, and shoe tag. It also comes in various colors (depending on form desired) — black, red, blue, yellow, pink, and purple. I got the purple because I figured it would go with most everything I own and not be so manly, like black.

This review has not been requested by RoadID or any marketing company and I am not yet an affiliate. However, I have just ordered one and now that the weather is (FINALLY!) nice enough to take my lovely daughter out for walks and to the playground, I felt it was a $20.00 insurance policy against potential disaster. If you like this and order one, feel free to let them know you’d like to see children’s products — I did :) .
