Blogoversary-2014     This month as part of the Tommy Mommy program we got two more Little Critter books that were part of the Inspired Kids line, We All Need Forgiveness and Being Thankful. We loved the last set that we got and these two have been enjoyed as well. This set, however, is in large board book format. They are the same size as the paperback version, but 4 times as thick :). little-critter-tommy-mommy In We All Need Forgiveness, Little Critter does a lot of things on accident. He knocks a cake onto the floor, spills oil in the garage and more and is always forgiven. When he is on the “wrong” end of mistakes, he is not so forgiving. Then one day he really makes a mistake and causes a lot of work and he is sitting in his treehouse feeling awful about it. The book ends with his friends forgiving him and everyone playing well together. Being Thankful is another great Little Critter book. In this one, Little Critter has a fairly large case of discontent and complains about EVERYTHING! He goes to the farm with his grandparents and helps around the farm and learns how all the animals are content with what they have and what they are given. Grandpa teaches him about having a gratitude stone in his pocket and sends him home with one for he and his sister, who has picked up on Little Critters unfortunate habit. I really love these books because they are so HONEST about the feelings that kids (and grown-ups!) have.

“I wish we had a boat,” I said. “Going on a boat ride is fun,” said my dad. “Not as much fun as a ride on your own boat,” I said.

Seriously. How many times have you had talk like that in your head even if you didn’t say it out loud? The language is very simple and the things that happen could happen to any of us, kids or adults. Little Critter always eventually comes around to understanding the character trait (forgiveness or being thankful), but always with a struggle. It’s nice to know we ALL struggle with it :). When my kids would ask for things I would tell them they should be grateful for the things they do have and we would get things for others like school supplies and dollar store items for the operation christmas child shoe boxes.

My daughter came home from TaeKwonDo one day and was really upset. She said that there was a girl who was very mean to her. I talked with her and when she went to class the next day, my daughter talked to the girl. The girl had a really bad day and was upset and took it out on my daughter. My daughter gave her a hug and told her that she was sorry she had a bad day and forgave her for being mean. I was so proud of her.
