This was originally posted at another blog of mine (www.motheringtc.com) that I have deleted.   I have combined all my blogs into this one for the sake of simplicity in my already busy life.   Jen – 6/13/09.

Thanks to MomSelect and Avon for this opportunity to be able to provide my readers another giveaway. Just prior to Thanksgiving, they sent me two items to review and giveaway. The first, my personal favorite, is the Botanicals Bamboo Reed Diffuser. I’ve never used a reed diffuser before but it was very simple. Open box, remove contents. Pour oil in vase, remove reeds from cellophane & place in vase. Enjoy.

Seriously though, I LOVED the scent. It’s called Summer Bouquet and there was a TON of it. It’s an essential oil so you have to be careful not to get it everywhere or eat it so keep away from the littles–I have it on one of the top shelves of a bookcase. I did find it to be a little too strong for the main living area of our home since we aren’t used to artificial scents. I moved it to the lower level which has a tendency to get a little stale and it’s great there. I’m not sure if you could dilute it with a little water and still have it work or not. It would be a great laundry scent IMHO.

The vase is ceramic, not glass which is different from others I’ve seen. Also, the vase is very simple–ridged & white to match any decor–and 5-1/2 inches tall, making it fit well even in small places. This would make a great gift for someone who loves to be on the cutting edge of home decor. I would expect to pay much more than $19.99 for a product like this and I’m sure the scent would be more questionable.

The second item I received was the Jillian Dempsey for AVON Essential Beauty Palette. They sent both a warm and a cool palette. Since I’ve been told I’m a warm twice (they are wrong–I always ended up looking like a clown, but I digress), I tried that one. Both palettes include 2 creme eyeshadows, 2 lip glosses, a creme blush & an applicator (for eyes/lips).

I’ve never used a creme eyeshadow before and really liked how smooth it went on. I also liked the intensity that creme shadow provides. The warm set has dark brown and a glittery copper for the eyes, a light rose and a nude/pale pink color for the lips and a peachy pink for the cheeks. The cool set has a pale tan/cream and lighter glittery copper eye colors, the lips are a dark red and nude/pale pink and a bronze color for the cheeks. The subtlety of the blush makes it very easy to not overdo it.

This is absolutely a collection that I would not hesitate to provide as a gift. The set, compactly packaged WITH a good-sized mirror retails for only $7.99! I would not trust the discount store equivalents. It’s about the size of 1-2 credit cards next to each other and is about 1/4″ thick, fitting perfectly in almost any tiny evening bag for quick touch-ups. I would say that these colors, if all used together, are more fitting for an evening affair, casual or dressy.

If you would like to win the reed diffuser or a cool palette makeup kit, here’s your chance! Go to Avon.com and tell me which of their products makes YOU feel like a million bucks in the comments with your email address (so I can tell you if you’ve won). US only, please! In order to try and get these to you by Christmas, I’m going to close the contest at 5pm EST on Wednesday, December 17, 2008.

Also, if you have any Christmas gifts to get Avon has provided us with free standard shipping with a $30 order when they shop with an eRepresentative. Just enter the code JINGLE30. Hurry; offer expires January 1!

The only thing I can remember using is this awesome lip gloss from Avon, but I’d love the hand lotion they have on their site. 🙂

I haven’t been exposed to many Avon products, but I’d love to try the Anew rejuvenate night cream.

That palette sounds great, too. I’m a cool so I’d love to play around with the eye makeup!
