devotions for early readers review giveaway

Do you have a new reader in your house? It can be hard to find books to read that are easy but not boring. Thomas Nelson has written a daily devotional for children ages 4-8 (PreK-Second Grade), Devotions for Beginning Readers. Aimed at beginning readers, the words are particularly chosen for this age group both for reading ability and understanding.

My particular second grader was at this stage about 6-9 months ago and then blew right past it, reading a chapter book a day or more. What it is awesome for is to have her be the leader of the morning prayer & devotion. The words are easy enough that she has confidence in reading it aloud for the first time and that her 4 year old sister. That is priceless! She doesn’t always choose to lead and I don’t force it, but when she does its a beautiful thing :).

Each daily devotion is contained on a single page. There is a bible verse at the top and a word of the day. Then there is a short reading. Designed for beginning readers, it has short lines & larger than normal print. The vocabulary is also fairly simple.

We do prayers each morning before we start school. My 5 year taught himself to read. I think he is trying to catch up to his older brothers. He would love to have something he could read to contribute to our morning prayers.

P.S. I found you via our Saint Mail subscription.
