Piratey with mop

So I was going to talk about something else today, but then this really funny thing happened to me.   I have a weekly cleaning routine.  I do certain things each day of the week and if I miss it, I just wait until the next week.   Due to beautiful weather & family stuff, we were gone all day on the day I clean floors two weeks in a row.   I have a 22 month old.   Food = everywhere.

Now before you think I’m a TOTAL slob, I did sweep a few times, I just hadn’t given it a full on mopping.   So we left the patio door open when we went to bed and ants had crawled under the screen door and made a path across the kitchen.   OKAY then.  Time to mop the floor, day of the week be damned.   Ahem.

So that was the first thing I did after the girls finished breakfast.   And it threw me off the rest of the day.  I thought it was Thursday (that’s my normal floor day) and so I packed up to go the gym and I get there and it was only Wednesday — no childcare on Wednesday mornings.  Oops.

So ingrained in me was the fact that certain chores are done on certain days that it messed the whole rest of the day up for me!   That being said, here is what my weekly chore schedule looks like.

Monday – pick up from weekend (nothing gets done when daddy’s home)

This usually involves picking up toys, books, putting away project odds & ends, unpacking (if we were gone & returned late), and that sort of thing.

Tuesday – Laundry

I wash mount laundry.

Wednesday – Laundry, continued

I fold, hang up and put away the laundry.

Thursday – Floors – sweep, mop, vacuum

I take care of the main floor here – kitchen/dining room is swept and mopped.  Living room and play room are vacuumed.   Downstairs is done on an as needed basis since we don’t spend much time there except sleeping.

Friday – Bathrooms & Beds

I clean the counters, toilets & mirrors on Fridays.  If I’m lucky, one of my girls will decide they NEED to have mopped yesterday and then the floors are cleaned, too.  For some reason the tile doesn’t get that dirty.  Maybe it has something to do with copious amounts of water on the floor being wiped up with towels at bathtime ;).

I also change the sheets on Fridays (every other week).  On the weeks I don’t change the sheets, I swap out & wash the rugs.   In theory, every Friday I do a load of either sheets or rugs.

Do you have a weekly cleaning routine?
