This year I’m doing something entirely different for Lent.   Usually I give up something food related, mostly because, well, I REALLY like food.    And I shouldn’t be eating many of the things I eat and cutting it out would be good and I could stand to lose a few pounds as well :).    I read a post online yesterday about why this usually doesn’t work, but now I can’t remember where I read it.

Anyway, this year I’m severly limiting my couponing time.    Since we moved here and it’s become practical to do, I’ve let it consume my days.   I read blogs, the Grocery Game, Refund Cents and several other sites trying to make sure I have ALL the good deals and don’t miss out on anything.   I’ll spend hours a day reading, and clipping and planning and list making.    It’s not my primary job (my daughter is) and shouldn’t take up every waking moment of my day.   So I’m limiting myself to checking two places on Monday’s (or Sunday’s depending) and the rest of them on Thursday or Friday.    I have a list and that’s all I get to do for couponing.

I’ve also been given the gift of a daughter who now will sleep without me in bed with her.   I’m taking that gift of 2 hours a day (1 hr AM, 1 hr PM) to do all my blogging so that I don’t take away from family/daughter time for that also.    This isn’t a lenten sacrifice, but it’s another thing that I am doing to reduce my dependance (or escape-ism?) on the internet in my life.
