Last fall, I was really getting into the whole adult coloring book craze. My oldest daughter & I loved to color together with crayons when we could snatch a spare moment. Once we finally were able to find more time, she had graduated to colored pencils or markers. I soon discovered that I needed to print out 4 copies of a freebie coloring page because all the littles wanted to join me.

I printed a dozen pages or so for each of us and enjoyed some quiet time coloring in Florida at Christmas. Shortly after we returned, I found a deal on some Prismacolor pencils and even splurged on an adult coloring book. And I found that was not coloring near as often. And I missed it.

Then the opportunity to review Whatever is Lovely came through my email just as I was finishing my last book review through BookLook. Not only is that from my favorite bible verse (Philippians 4:8), but I was looking for an easy, relaxing, and artistic outlet. Whatever is Lovely is a 12×12 adult coloring book with thick pages suitable for whatever medium you choose to use. I’ve used watercolors and colored pencils and both have turned out lovely ;). I’m sure markers would be fine, too.

The pictures in THIS adult coloring book are like a balm for your soul. The images are all single sided. The facing page has inspirational text related to the image. Frequently, these consist of bible verses, but hymns & quotes from Christians also pepper the pages.

There are 12 different illustrators so there are a variety of styles. Some are mostly letters. Others have geometrical or floral designs. But all have worship of God as central to their theme. And I have found myself coloring in Whatever is Lovely nearly every night. THIS is the kind of coloring I have enjoyed for free online and now I have a whole book.

And there is a community, too. To see samples of pages, check out #whateverislovely on Instagram. I shared one and the artist who drew it commented! As you can see, I shared a lot of pics on Instagram :D. Whatever is Lovely is a beautiful book and would be a great addition to your spiritual time basket while listening to hymns — they even created a Spotify playlist of music to listen to while you color! If you love looking at everyone else’s illustrated bibles on Pinterest or Instagram (like me), but don’t feel artistic enough or don’t like the idea of drawing in your bible, this is a great alternative!

Do you get creative with the creator? How?
