While I am really good at making sure that we guard our time at home & as a family, I’m not so good at guarding my time from a never ending list of things to do. Reorganizing and purging and cleaning and blogging and home improvement projects and and and. And that’s just at home! That doesn’t even include working or homeschooling!

3 Things Being Busy Steals From You

Even as well as I guard our time, things can stack up. Co-op in a normal week is fine. But add dinner guests the day I work, a work deadline, a bunch of errand that I have put off for too long and a big blog deadline or two and all of a sudden reasonable becomes BUSY.

And bad, even dangerous, things happen when there is too much busy.

1. Busy Steals Your Health.

Have you ever been feeling off but were so busy that you practically collapsed before you realized it? I’ve had this happen too many times to count. Once it was my eye glass prescription drastically changing and causing really bad headaches. It was nearly a month before I slowed down enough to realize what it was. Once it was being mean mommy. I was contemplating boarding school before I realized it was time to start Vitamin D already.

I have had lots of health problems over the last several years but because I don’t live my whole life like the crazy week above, I have been able to notice the problems before they get out of hand. I notice when I’m deficient in vitamins or sleep or my diet has been less than ideal. Before it gets out of hand.

2. Busy Steals Your Relationships.

Relationships take work. And time. And require you to be present. You cannot check relationship off your to do list. While special time with someone might be an item on your list, that can’t be ALL the effort in your relationship. It won’t be much of a relationship. Even kids can tell the difference between being engaged and checking off a task.

That’s a sure sign that you are too busy to keep up with your relationships. Relationships require that you, you know, relate.

Dying old men never wish they had worked more while laying on their deathbeds.

The old adage to live as though you may die tomorrow is especially true for relationships. Stop being too busy for the people you love.

3. Busy Steals Your Joy

My husband I were talking one day and he asked what my goals were. I was kind of embarrassed to tell him my goals because they were kind of silly. Instead of being some lofty life-changing thing, they were things centered on enjoying the life I have right now.

God only gives us one life and right now I’m in the small kid season of it. My goals are things like learn how to use eyeliner quickly (which I’ve discovered is a combination of technique and product quality) or to travel regularly (even if its only overnight a few hours away).

If you are too busy to find and embrace joy in your days, you are too busy.

You need to stop and smell the roses. Or make a snow angel. Or splash in a puddle.

Busy is a thief that steals from everyone, but especially mothers. We are wired to give and care for other. And its hard to not be busy. But its good to know french, cook gourmet food and have a nice whatever. Busy comes right from Satan. He is the thief who comes in the night and takes your health, your loved ones and your joy.

Only God offers the best!

What best does God have for you that you are missing out on?
