This is my favorite summer BBQ or Potluck dessert recipe.  Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 4 small boxes of Jello (red, yellow, green and orange)
  • 2 c. milk
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 pt. sour cream
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 pk. unflavored gelatin (Knox)
  • 1/2 c. cold water

Directions:

Dissolve Knox in 1/2 c. cold water.

Bring mlk to a boil & remove from heat.  Add sugar, knox, vanilla and sour cream.   Beat for a few minutes.   Set aside but DO NOT REFRIDGERATE!

Prepare Lemon Jello with 1 c. boiling water and 1/2 c. cold water.  Pour into a 11×15 pan and refridgerate until firm (about 45 minutes).

Spread 1-1/4 c. of sour cream mixture and refridgerate for 45 minutes or until set.   Repeat, alternating Jello layers and sour cream mixture.

Traditionally we have put Lemon on the bottom, then Orange, then Lime and then Strawberry on top.

Serves ~25.

This is my husband’s favorite jello. My former sister-in-law always brought it to holiday dinners. Today is my first attempt! Thanks for posting the recipe. I was pretty happy to find it – with a beautiful picture that shows it exactly as I remember.

It is a little time-consuming but only because you have to be home all day. It’s a great 10 minutes her and there recipe. Especially when you have super little ones!
