What’s On Your Nightstand?

What’s On Your Nightstand – Summer 2011

I realized that I missed one last time:

21. A Heart Divided by Kathleen Morgan (see my review here)

In June I overbooked myself for book reviews and read:
22. Don’t Make Me Come Up There: Quiet Moments for Busy Moms by Kristen Welch
23. Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
24. The Shunning by Beverly Lewis
25. A Reluctant Queen by Joan Wolf (see my full review)
26. Spring for Susannah by Catherine Richmond (see my full review)
27. Beside Still Waters by Tricia Goyer (see my full review)
28. Martha by Diana Wallis Taylor (see my full review)
29. Centuries of June by Keith Donahue (see my full review at Simply Stacie)

And for the rest of the summer (well, so far, anyway)
30. The Blessing by Ann H Gabhart (see my full review)
31. Twang by John Schlimm — I wasn’t real fond of this one.  You may or may not see a review pop up on Simply Stacie.
32. RelationTrips by Jeff Siegel (look for my review on Simply Stacie)
33. Broken Birds; The Story of My Momilla by Jeannette Katzir (look for my review on Simply Stacie)
34. Totally Together (look for my review in September!)
35. The Colonial’s Lady by Laura Frantz (see my full review)
36. Young & In Love: Challenging the Unnecessary Delay of Marriage by Ted Cunningham (see my full review)
37. Saints Preserved: An Encyclopedia of Relics by Thomas J Craughwell (see my full review)
38. The Orchard by Jeffrey Stepakoff (look for my review on Simply Stacie)

I’m exhausted just listing them!  I’m working my way through several others, including Large Family Logistics.

What’s On Your Nightstand – May 2011

16. Finding Your Purpose As Mom by Donna Otto

I adored this book. Devoured it, really. I ended up reading most of it during Holy Week. I keep trying to move closer to that ultimate spot where I juggle my blogging (hobby/work) with my kiddos and hubby and I think this book is going to be a great one to help walk me through those steps. I can’t wait to get back to it to go through it again and savor each chapter. You can read the post that I wrote on it a few weeks ago.

17. Point of No Return (Missions of Mercy #1) by Susan May Warren
18. Mission: Out of Control (Missions of Mercy #2) by Susan May Warren
19. Undercover Pursuit (Missions of Mercy #3) by Susan May Warren

I read these three Love Inspired Suspense novels as part of a LitFuse tour. I have read books by Susan May Warren before and I wasn’t super thrilled. I really liked these, though. Stay tuned for more details :) .

20.   Fully Engaged:  How to DO Less and BE More by John Busacker.

I liked this book.  I liked it a LOT!  He really was a great advocate for concentrating on one thing at a time and doing it fully.   And a huge advocate for having people as the top priority.   Read my full (somewhat rambling) review here.

What’s On Your Nightstand – April 2011

14.  The Hope Within (Heirs of Montana #4) by Tracie Peterson

This was a pretty good book.  When I picked it up, it had been a few months since I read the others and I actually got it confused with another series so it took me a few pages to remember where I was :) .   I really FELT this one.   It was so very real with very tough marriage and life struggles and I completely identified.  I actually questioned whether it would be a happily ever after.

15. Tomorrow’s Garden (Texas Dreams #3) by Amanda Cabot

This was a good book, too.  I liked the characters, it didn’t feel contrived or unrealistic and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the old idea of courting.  So much nicer than serial dating.   I think that’s why I love historical romances :) .  I wrote a full review last month.

I just didn’t feel like reading much during Lent.  As always, I’m striving to do better and be a better wife and mom and am in my quarterly “Should I really be spending time on this?” quest.   I’m ALMOST finished with Finding Your Purpose as a Mom: How to Build Your Home on Holy Ground by Donna Otto.  LOVING that one.   I’ll be linking up a more in depth review on May 10 with Life As Mom – Booking It 2011.

How about you?  Did you read anything good during Lent?

What’s On Your Nightstand – March 2011

8.  Lady in Waiting by Susan Meissner.

I forgot to include this book last month.  Oops.  I really liked the duel storyline.  It was well thought out so it wasn’t confusing and I liked both storylines so much, that I couldn’t pick a favorite.  They complimented each other very well.   Read my full review for more information.

9.   Bathsheba by Jill Eileen Smith

As always, I loved this book, too.   This series has caused me to recognize more of the story of David when I hear it, or see it and I LOVE being able to make connections between obscure references.  I’m kind of a dork like that.   I also liked how she made me feel sorry for Bathsheba.  I had always thought she was a seductress, but this book made me feel like what she did could happen to anyone who didn’t guard their hear.   You can read my full review if you are interested.

10.  Unplanned: The Dramatic True Story of a Former Planned Parenthood Leader’s Eye-Opening Journey across the Life Line by Abby Johnson

This was a great pro-life book that painted the people who worked at PP as people who truly wanted to help others.   I never thought that people who worked there were as bad as what they do, but now I feel the need to pray that they SEE the whole picture.   Wonderful book.

11.  Dakota Child by Linda Ford

This was a free book I got as part of the Harlequin Ambassador program.   It was an okay story…typical Harlequin Historical romance.

12.  Love Amid the Ashes by Mesu Andrews

Another great biblical fiction book, this time about Lot.   I wasn’t familiar with much of that story before reading it, but I will be now!   Another fabulous book — look for my full review on Thursday.

13.  Fasting by Scot McKnight

An interesting discussion of the how & why of fasting as a spiritual discipline.   Look for my review in a week or two.

What’s On Your Nightstand – Feb. 2011

5. The Real Skinny on Losing It by Michelle McKinney Hammond

This was an entertaining read.   I liked her tone of voice & identified greatly with her food issues.  There were somethings I disliked, though.   You can read my full review for more info.

6. Rhythm of Secrets by Patti Lacy

I had a hard time reading about some of the trials the main character went through, but the end made it all worthwhile.   I wrote a full review earlier this month.

7. A Trail of Ink by Mel Starr

I was surprised as to the style of writing when I first opened it up, but really liked this book.   Stay tuned for a full review ;) .
