Running

I did it!

I finished my first 5k. I jogged the WHOLE thing, start to finish. I went at such a leisurely pace that I had plenty to kick it up a few notches to cross the finish line.  So leisurely, that I had people walking who had better times than me.   My time was 42:04 which averaged to a 13:34m Mile.    This is about 1-1/2 minutes/mile slower than my practice times- which wipe me out.

Overall, I’m pretty pleased.   I was able to do the whole thing without walking (which was my goal) and I was able to do it in under 45 minutes (which was less of a goal than an estimate of how long it would take.).   About mile 2 my knee, which has never bothered me before, started to hurt.   I’m used to having muscle pain but not joint pain.   I’d rather have DOMS than joint pain.   Anyway, after a bit of time under the heating pad, they are feeling a bit better and will probably be fine in a day or two– I’m young :) .

5k training update…

I beat my previous first mile record by 10 seconds to 12:30 on Friday afternoon. I skipped training on Saturday but started back up with week 3 today. I knocked 30 seconds for a 1st mile time of 12:00. Now, my lungs have adapted to running but my legs are my limiting factor. All in all, I did pretty good despite the heat.

Best time ever!

I’ve been training for a 5k by the guidelines I found in a book called ‘Running for Women’ (great book by the way) and I ran/walked my best mile ever today!

Last week I was at about 17:30 per mile.   Monday evening, I had a 13:00 minute mile and today was 12:40!!!    I can’t wait to see how much my mile drops next week–I almost double my run time.  Far cry from high school where I walked a 37:00 mile :P *

The 5k I want to run in is on July 8 so if I can make it through the first 4 weeks of my training schedule, I will sign up for it.

Toodles!
