Cravings {Product Review}

I am the ultimate speed reader; the queen of skim.  It’s how I managed to read 54+ books last year with a baby.  I’m always in a hurry though, not just when I’m reading.

When you have small children, though, hurrying makes for a grumpy family.  One way that I’ve been working on slowing down has been to spend time with God every day.  Multiple times a day, even.  In addition to my normal devotions, I’m loving Cravings!

Cravings is a gift item that consists of cupcake with a deck of cards.  It’s made to hold the deck of bite sized devotions and has a photo holder like wire to hold that days dessert.  Meant to fill your Cravings for God during your busy life, it really works that way.

As the queen of quick, I read it several times throughout the day.  I find that I am most able to think about it while preparing a meal while the kiddos are otherwise occupied.  I was changing it daily until I was waylaid by one that I feel compelled to keep in the forefront; I’ve been working on that one for weeks!

I really like the idea and better than that, I love the practicality of having it displayed on the counter so that I can read it every time I’m in the kitchen (which feels like all the time!).  It pretty enough that I like it there and the devotions with actions are just my style.  This would make a great Mothers Day gift!

“When I became a mom I lost my God time,” says Carey Bailey. “I
couldn’t figure out how to fit it in, since everything but that time was a priority. So I made note cards that I set around my house with scriptures written on them. Even when my arms were too full of babies, laundry, and diapers to pick up a Bible, I could easily read God’s words of encouragement that I was starving for”

The Chaplet of Our Lady of Divine Mercy

I was blessed to be able to attend a conference on Divine Mercy a few weeks ago and I wanted to tell you about all the great things I learned, but I just haven’t had the time to process it and get it all in my head.   I *DID*, however, want to share with you The Chaplet of Our Lady of Divine Mercy.   It was written in Poland and is relatively new to this country.

The Chaplet of Our Lady of Divine Mercy

Opening PrayerHail, Holy Queen

Say on the Our Father beads:

Mary, Mother of all Graces, Mother of Divine Mercy; defend us from our enemies and receive us at the hour of our death.

Say on the Hail Mary beads:

Mary, Mother of Mercy, implore for us the mercy of your Son.

Final Prayer:

You open your arms to us most merciful Mother, and stretch out your hands, full of mercies and gifts.  Your Mother’s heart is restless to endow us with everything we need.  Encouraged by your goodness, we have confidence in you.  We beg you to intercede for us Mother obtaining for us all we need.  Through your most powerful intercession, obtain from God especially the gift of chastity and innocence, and foster in our heart truly childlike love for you.  So that we may bear the image of the Sacred Heart of your Son, may the Sacred Heart defend us, guide us, and take us to eternal light.  Amen.

Make the Sign of the Cross.

Imprimatur:  Permission of the Diocese of Warsaw, Now 797/K/86Bishop Zhigniew J Kraszewski, Vicar General, 18/Feb/1986Bishop Stanislav Smolenski, Vicar General, 7/April/1990Translated from Polish by Dr. Anna Szadkowska, 20/Nov/1994

Prayer of St. Gertrude

don't pray in the rain if you don't pray when ...

I have been working through the Full of Grace scripture study and came across this prayer that was such a perfect fit for me that I ha to share it. Maybe it will help you, too.

Prayer of St. Gertrude

O eternal sweetness of my soul, Thou who alone art the Beloved of my heart, Thy face is all lovely and Thy Heart all inviting; but my thoughts, alas! go wandering far from Thee.  Come, O God of my heart, gather together my scattered mental powers and fix them upon Thyself.

I feel like I am always wandering so when I read this, I had to write it down and share it.
