30 Day Giving Challenge – Final Thoughts

30-day-giving-challenge-253x300

Well, the 30 day giving challenge is over.  I wish I could say I did something giving every single day, but I didn’t.  I wish I could say that it was always well received, but it wasn’t.

I did learn a lot though.   I found that God truly does provide.   I have a stinginess problem and I’ve noticed that my giving without thought of our needs has not caused our family to go without.  I’ve also noticed that when I do what I should be doing God multiplies my efforts much more than they would have been had I done it myself.

I don’t think I’m going to end this challenge per se, but I’m going to keep on living with a giving spirit.  I’m finding so much more peace in doing so.  If you didn’t participate, it’s not too late to make giving an Advent priority.

30 Day Giving Challenge – Week 4

30-day-giving-challenge-253x300

More growing opportunities this week!  I sent out a donation, gave some money to a Salvation Army bell ringer, did some things for my grandmother on Thanksgiving, and a few other things that aren’t coming to mind right now.  I’m SURE that I did better this week than last.

I had an interesting thing happen that I didn’t expect.  We had planned on going to my family’s for Thanksgiving and I called to ask my grandmother if we could stay at her house.  She has always said we were welcome and was looking forward to seeing Lil Bit.  My dad had to cancel the big shindig at their house because his wife had to work and so we were going to be at grandma’s the whole time.   I brought over a ham dinner from the grocery store — ham, potatoes, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, egg nog, rolls, pumpkin pie, cranberry relish, beer and a tin of popcorn.

I thought that it might help since she wouldn’t have to cook so much and I know that she is on a tighter budget than we are, i think, and I wanted to be helpful.  I brought flowers, too.   She didn’t seem to be happy about it.   She didn’t seem to be happy that we came either (and I got that impression when I called her the week before). I’m not sure what the deal was.  All I can do is pray about it.

Have any ideas?   Feel the need to pray? — I’d appreciate it :) .

30 Day Giving Challenge – Week 3

30-day-giving-challenge-253x300

Well, I wish I had done better this week.   I was almost going to skip writing this post and hoping no one would notice because I couldn’t think of a single thing I had done.   Then I remembered two.

First, I gave one of my awesome prizes to my sister-in-law when they were visiting with us.   The one that gave me infinite rewards though, was Thursday when I really gave myself to my daughter.   We read, and played and cooked and did housework and I was rewarded in the most wonderful way.   Much like her mother Lil Bit is well, stingy with her affection.  Not Thursday!   I got more hugs, kisses and snuggles than I had gotten in the last few MONTHS on Thursday.   God truly is great!

30 Day Giving Challenge Update

30-day-giving-challenge-253x300

Well, I’m pretty sure that I didn’t do something concrete each day this week though I definitely TRIED to keep it at the front of my mind.

This week, I made a phone call to a friend (I HATE talking on the phone–a leftover from phone customer service days with ye olde cable co), gave a case of Almond milk to the food pantry, gave invitations to people for dinner last minute (I like to prepare — I am a planner by nature).

Oh and my favorite?  I gave both of my honey’s foot rubs while watching hockey one night.  Bones LOVES massages and Lil Bit loves anything girly.

I wish I had something everyday, but I’m getting into a habit and mindset of blessing others regularly and it feels very nice.    I’ve also considered a few other things that would not have normally popped into my mind, but because I’m in that MINDSET, I have.

30 Day Giving Challenge – Week 1

30-day-giving-challenge-253x300

Well, the first week of the 30 day giving challenge is over.   I was kind of stretched and so excited that I wanted to do it all at once and then petered out as the week went on.   Isn’t THAT the story of my life!

On Sunday, I did several things.   I got my home bookkeeping in order so that I knew how much of my offering goal I was behind on and so I wrote probably 8 checks as donations that I’ve been meaning to do and have 2 left to do.   I also bought some Boy Scouts Popcorn (which I normally wouldn’t do).

I’m also kind of ashamed to say that it was something I had to think of do to leave my leftovers at the potluck hosts’ house.   Most of the time, I bring it (or at least part of it) back home.    That’s always been my biggest place to need to stretch: to count on God to provide.    I have a tendency to try to save parts of things or be a bit stingy or not offer my very best and that’s not a good example nor is it good hospitality.   I have an opportunity to work that this weekend, too :) .

I started working on my husband’s pants this week.   I bought him about 4-5 new pair this summer and thought I could salvage a few but he hasn’t been able to wear any of them.   They are all in need of new hems and I HATE to sew.   Well, I guess it’s more that I don’t know HOW and I don’t do things I’m not good at.   So there :P .   Another area to stretch, right?   I’ve gotten two pair finished and one pair is pressed, pinned and ready to sew.   They’ve actually got me kind of wanting to sew more.   I just need some patience is all.

Can you hear the ligaments tearing?

The rest of the week I either did little things I’d rather not mention for fear of revealing too much about people I know or I didn’t do much of anything.
