Last time, we put in all of our out-of-the-house obligations into a schedule. Now, it’s time to make up your daily and weekly routine. Personally, I have both a daily routine and a weekly one. I have things that need to be done daily such as morning offerings, reading to Lil’ Bit, loading/unloading the dishwasher, etc. I also have a weekly routine where I divide cleaning into room by day, I have an errand day, appointment day, cleaning day, yard sale hopping day (in summer), etc. Most things in the daily routine fit into a day despite what I have scheduled for it in the weekly routine. In other words, it’s not a tightly packed day 🙂
Don’t fall into the trap of putting in more than can be realistically done. Think ESSENTIALS: Mostly things you already do, can’t do without, and a habit or two that you would like to add. This week we are going to start with the first two areas of importance: Prayer & Person.
Items to consider when making your prayer routine:
- What practices are desired and REASONABLE based on my station in life? Do I have any obstacles? How can I overcome those?
- When can I do my desired prayer practices?
- Where can I do them? Do I need anything special (notebook, bible, rosary, etc)?
- When can I go to confession?
- What about Mass? Daily? Sunday’s only?
- Are there any special prayer practices or devotions I’ve always wanted to do? spiritual direction, prayer groups, bible studies, Adoration, retreats, First Friday’s/Devotion to the Sacred Heart, First Saturday’s/Devotion to the Immaculate Heart, etc.
If you are looking for more guidance here, there are WONDERFUL prompts in A Mother’s Rule Life.
Items to consider when making your personal routine:
- bath & beauty routines
- eating
- sleeping
- doctor’s checkup’s (annuals, dentist, eye’s, etc)
- exercise
- decompression — Some people have a really hard time balancing their need to have time “off-duty” with escapism. Keep that in mind when scheduling “me” time…
Next time, we’ll go into the partner, parent & provider roles.
God Bless!
