For November’s Saint Picture Book Club selection, I decided to do something a little different. The feast for the last monthly picture book for this liturgical year is All Saints Day.
To celebrate All Saints Day, I am sharing my absolute favorite collections of Saint stories.
Picture Book Collections of Saint Stories
For littles, my favorite picture book is An Alphabet of Saints. It’s great for the toddler/preschool set or homeschoolers doing a letter of the week type thing. Each letter of the alphabet has an illustration and a rhyming verse about the Saint. There is also a few sentences about the Saint to learn more. Very cute!
For K-2 or so, our favorites are Saints for Boys and Saints for Girls. These are two small, thin hardcover volumes that contain reprints of several Saint picture books. Each book contains 11 stories. If you are a Charlotte Mason homeschooler (or fan) you will adore these. They are the epitome of living books! The stories are so well told that your children will probably easily remember these stories.

Great for Reading Aloud
The last two are new books that we haven’t started reading together yet, but I snuck a peek at them when they came in ;).
The first is Around the Year Once Upon A Time Saints. This is one of three like it. There are no pictures but the stories are engaging and well told. Another set of living books and they are arranged in the book by date so you can read through the liturgical year.
The final book is the newest in our collection. It is the Loyola Kids Book of Saints. What I like about this one is that the saints are grouped by type, like Saints who loved their family, or saints who changed their lives for God. The text is very conversational and leads the child to how to be more like that Saint. It will be a great reference for character training, I think. Again, no pictures, great for a read aloud.
So there you have 6 of our favorite collections of Saint stories to celebrate All Saints Day, coming up on November 1.

16 October 2015 at 9:10 AM (9 years ago)We love the Loyola book of Saints – my daughter reads it repeatedly. I do have to laugh, though; she started out wanting to read the “Saints who are brave” section. After a few minutes reading, she comes to me looking extremely troubled, and said, “I don’t want to be a brave saint – they all ended up dead!” So I might suggest holding off on that section until the kids are a bit older. Explaining religious persecutions ending in death and martyrdom aren’t easy conversations before bed!
