I have to admit that I am a Rosary failure.  I have never been able to consistently say it but I know that there are lots of reasons TO do so.

If your family is one of those ones who does a family rosary, do your children know WHY we say the rosary?

I received a copy of this beautiful book from Ignatius Press this summer and it was better than I expected.  It is another joint offering between Magnificat and Ignatius Press.   This is a thin, full size (8-1/2 x 11 ish) book.  It’s a fairly short book at only 32 pages long, but it is packed with interesting stories about the history of the rosary.

Not only does Let’s Pray the Rosary talk about the origins of the rosary, but it also talks about several Marian apparitions where she requests that the rosary be prayed.  I think my favorite stories are those where changes occurred after large groups of people prayed the rosary — Lepanto, for instance.  IMG_9561

The illustrations are gorgeous and there is a lot of text on the page, making it ideal for older children, say 5-10.  We used this book as part of our morning book basket this summer, but in the winter, reading a story or two on the way to and/or from church would be a good idea, too.  This book does share how to pray the rosary and includes the mysteries but it’s a very small portion of the book (just a few pages) and really isn’t the intent.

It does, however, work well for children (or adults) who mostly know how to say the rosary and just might need a prompt or two.  I know I learned a lot I didn’t know before and like all good books, it whetted my appetite to learn more.  So many books, so much knowledge, so little time!

If you are looking for a good Marian picture book for your home, Let’s Pray the Rosary is a great book.  I highly recommend it!
