Bloom where you’re planted. It’s one of those platitudes that people love to throw out when you tell them you are unhappy. If you are simply in survival mode, it sounds ridiculous. You may as well throw a pool noodle to a drowning woman in a hurricane.

But if you aren’t just trying to keep your head above water on a by minute basis, it really is the key to living your best life right now. Because waiting until you have the perfect income, house, older children, body, etc….well, it will never happen!

Ruth Soukup of the blog Living Well, Spending Less is releasing Living Well, Spending Less: 12 Secrets of the Good Life the book tomorrow. As a student in Elite Blog Academy (which is worth EVERY PENNY, BTW), I had an opportunity to be part of her launch team. I’ve read it twice already.

Living Well, Spending Less is so much more than a frugal living book. Ruth really gets to the root cause of all our financial woes–

Because you can’t buy happiness.

Ruth came from a fairly wealthy family and still leads a fairly privileged life.  And as she shares, even all that money and the stuff you can buy and things you can do with it, don’t buy happiness.  She very candidly shares from her heart hard lessons she learned about money, even dealing with clinical depression, divorce, and bankruptcy.  She even had to make some mistakes more than once.

In LWSL, Ruth shares 12 secrets for Living the Good Life:
Secret #1: The Good Life is Not What We Think It Is
Secret #2: Contentment is a Choice
Secret #3: We all have a sweet spot
Secret #4: Written goals can change your life
Secret #5: We all get the same 24 hours
Secret #6: Less stuff equal more joy
Secret #7: We need to spend less than we think we do
Secret #8: Saving is a state of mind
Secret #9: How to cut you grocery bill in half
Secret #10: A clean house is a happy house
Secret #11: The best things in life are free
Secret #12: We get more when we give

When I first offered to join the launch team, I thought it would be a frugal tips book.   It’s so much more than that.  It’s so much BETTER than that.   Frugal tips are a dime a dozen and if you just pay really close attention, you can come up with ways to save a buck or ten.   But realizing that all the stuff you are longing for isn’t filling the hole?   That is pure gold.

I so wish I had this book over the last 3 or 4 years.  My path mirrored hers in many ways.  Her tips for realizing that stuff is not going to make you happy and that contentment is a choice, come straight from someone who has walked the walk and taken that journey.  They did not come from someone who just wanted to sell a book.  LWSL is a work that came from her heart.  And I’m betting it will speak to yours.   Even though I’ve already begun to travel the path Ruth has, I am still travelling down it.   Her book has prompted me in several areas where I would like to do better.

If you are looking to be more content, spend less time drowning in and managing STUFF, or to spend less this coming year, I would give Living Well, Spending Less a read.  Plus, if you need to get your stuff together, you still have one more day to get the pre-order bonuses, including a fabulous 155 page planner that is UNDATED.

You can use it every year and if life gets away from you for a season, you haven’t wasted anything.  The beginning includes a long-term goals list, as well as a year at a glance planning pages, important information and a master to-dolist.   Monthly pages include a blank calendar, 2  budget pages, goals list, weekly planning pages covering meal plans, to-do list, things to remember and more.  It also has a monthly expense tracker, a prayer list and a page for notes/ideas.

What do you want your 2015 to be like?
