My youngest daughter loves anything techy (in short spurts) and seems to have an interest in music. We bought her a dog guitar toy for Christmas and she loves it. My other daughter is only marginally interested, but its important to me that she knows how to read music. So when the opportunity came to review KinderBach, I requested to be a part of it.

KinderBach

KinderBach is an online piano lesson site intended for children ages 3-7. We received a The KinderBach Online Piano Lesson Membership with Teacher Corner. The normal cost for a 1 year membership is $130, but as of the time of writing, it’s available for $95.88/year.

The teacher’s corner membership includes access to all 6 levels of video lessons, the mp3’s & teachers materials, coloring books, music books, song pages and the student workbooks. I even found downloadable lesson plans for teaching this as a class and a schedule for daily work & the items needed.

You can sign up for a free trial and KinderBach’s online piano lessons do not require super fancy equipment. In fact, we used a toy Little Tikes keyboard for the first 6 weeks of testing. Now that we know they like it, I’m buying a better keyboard off of a friend 🙂

Likes and Dislikes

I really liked that the lessons were self paced. Once you log in, you get every level for every lesson, all at once so you can start where your children are. KinderBach provides videos for 4 days a week. We did several videos a day for a week and then did one new video and 2-3 old ones for review each day.

Several lessons had a corresponding workbook page which my daughter’s enjoyed. The three year had several activities that she wanted to do daily! In the first 3 weeks, we concentrated on high-low discrimination & rhythm. My 3 year old caught on to where the D key is very quickly and often requested Dodi’s song. The girls have learned a lot in very little time.

The lessons are super short (less than 10 minutes) and the only prep work I do is to print the student workbook pages. There are teacher guides that I have printed & looked at and even testing materials, but since I’m only teaching my own 2 girls, I pretty well know if they are getting it. Or not :).

KinderBach has also been a good jumping point for answering questions my 6 year old has asked while following the music during Mass. The videos seem to be done on a green screen and she goes a little slow sometimes, but only I notice that.

There’s only one dislike, really. It’s still kids learning to play the piano. And they want to use it between lessons. And I’d like earplugs. But it will be worth it later and has nothing to do with the system, but I did forget about it :).

Summary

Overall, my girls (6 & 3) enjoyed KinderBach program. The lessons are super short and require very little prep. You can prep more & get more out of it, but its still quick & easy. Many lessons are accessible anywhere you have the Internet even without the keyboard. The breakdown is simple & accessible for the ages it’s intended and you can go as quickly or slowly as you need.

We will be continuing to use this one for sure; they ask for it every day!
