One of my goals this year was to be more mindful of my spending.   I love living debt-free, but with another baby on the way and having some things we would like to do (like refinance the house & pay it off in 10 years), well, some of the slop needs to go.  My kids have altogether too many clothes.   We have too much randomness purchased in the name of homeschooling :).    And I’m sure that I buy too much at full price.

After I reviewed Debt Proof Your Christmas and enjoyed it so much, I was excited to take a look at Mary Hunt’s newest book, Cheaper. Better. Faster.   Released just in time for helping with those financial New Years Resolutions (cough, sputter), Cheaper. Better. Faster has over 2000 tips and tricks to help you save money and time.   This book is a compilation of tips from Mary Hunt’s readers over the years.

CBF covers 16 main areas including automobiles, kids, health & beauty, and more.   When I requested the book, I thought it would be heavier on the saving money side of things, but it’s really pretty evenly split between saving time and saving money.   Some tips she gave seemed really extravagant while others seemed like things I could totally see the penny-pinchers in my life doing.

One of the things that disappointed me was the small section devoted to food.   There are SO MANY ways to save money on food and most of the tips were on saving time.   The other thing was that there weren’t very many tips on saving or doing things in a healthier manner (eating, cleaning) or how to save on going green.   That would be really useful as more and more people are working toward that type of thing.

Overall, Cheaper. Better. Faster has a little bit for everyone but if you are looking for a book full of super useful tips for you…well, you’ll likely find some, but it won’t be a major percentage, I don’t think.   Especially if you are already living pretty frugally.

Available January 2013 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.

If you are thinking of purging homeschool stuff I wouldn’t mind taking a gander at some of what you have. I only bought one curriculum this year and it isn’t working that well for me. Belle likes it but I am finding it takes a lot of prep time that I don’t always have time/remember to do.
