I’ve been a on-again, off-again reader of the bible.  I have a tendency to just read the day’s liturgical readings rather than sitting down and reading it like a book.   I have a one-year catholic bible and occasionally I will sit down and read the Proverbs.

Unfortunately, pulling my bible out with it’s delicate pages doesn’t work with my two little monkeys.  I tend to be a prayer snatcher.  When I find the girls occupied, I try to pray a little bit.  It usually lasts until they realize I’m sitting with a book and then they remember that they like to be read to :).

In these instances, I’m really grateful for my normal rotation of prayer books that allows me to snatch minutes for prayer when I can.  Proverbs Prayers by John Mason, is a new addition to my pile of prayer books.    Each day I can sit down and read a book of proverbs.   Then there is a prayer where you are lead through the main points of the chapter, asking for grace to take to heart the wisdom therein as well as asking God to put on your heart some aspect of it that you should be improving upon or doing.

The pages are sturdy and have a fake-torn edge look that, for some unknown reason, makes me want to use it.  It feels more personal, perhaps.   I’ve really enjoyed adding this book to my routine and feel a little more at peace in my days.   If you like to pray but don’t have the time to get a whole involved prayer/study session together, this could be a great resource for you.
