I’m so excited to be participating in the 5 Days of Cleaning & Organizing series this week! There are 22 bloggers participating, sharing their tips for cleaning and organizing.   On Monday, I shared my favorite tools for cleaning carpet and yesterday, I talked about cleaning hardwood floors.   Today, I’m talking about my favorite tools for washing dishes, pots and pans.

1.   Dawn Soap.

Like I said yesterday, technically, you could use any dish soap, but I always have Dawn around my house because it just works.   I use it for getting grease stains out of clothing because it works so well for getting grease off of my dishes, pots and pans.

2.   Dishcloths.

Some people like sponges but I like the texture of a rag better.  Not only does it provide a little texture that a sponge does not, but it also lets you feel the goop that you are trying to wash off your dish better.    I’ve tried both microfiber and knitted/crocheted for washing dishes, but I like the old fashioned ones better.   My favorites are the cheapo Mainstays dishcloths from Walmart.  I actually have to go out of my way to get more because I can’t stand Walmart.

3. Dish Brush with firm bristles.

I use these mostly for cleaning the gunk out of my cast iron pans, but I also use them for caked on goo on my regular pans, as well.  Come to think of it, I use it to wash pans when I haven’t bothered to do dishes and I need a dirty pan.   Which is all the time; I hate dishes.   Any brand with firm but not super rigid bristles will do; I actually get mine at the dollar store right now.

4. Scotch-Brite Dobie Cleaning Pad

I originally bought these pads to clean my shower (didn’t work), but found they are fabulous for cleaning that orange greasy stuff that find its way to the bottoms of my stainless steel.

Thanks for the tip on the Dobie pad! I want to get stainless steel cookware sometime soon, so I’ll have to keep it in mind.
My other favorite dishes cleaning tool is the Pampered chef dish scrapers. They get whatever gunk seems impossible.
