Let It Go {31 Days}

To make time for the best things, sometimes you have to let go of good things.

When I started this blog, I was protesting a call to stop blogging. I probably should have saved myself a few hundred dollars on startup by listening.

While I’m not going to entirely stop (I think), I’m not going to have a schedule. I’m going to post when I have something to share. And that’s all.

I want to make some printables. And more packing lists. And I have some rockin’ posts i want to share this coming spring. So I’ll be around but not a lot.

Go live your life. Love ya!

Am I Not A Man? {Book Review}

Do you remember your American history class from high school? I THOUGHT I did. I guess dry history textbooks where you are taught the text didn’t have much staying power.

Am I Not A Man? The Dred Scot Story by Mark L Shurtleff will.  Am I Not A Man is a historical novel about Dred Scot. Mark L Shurtleff researched the history of Dred Scot, the slave who appealed to the Supreme Court for his freedom. The people, places & most events were factual.

The story of Dred Scot was expertly woven from flashbacks to his childhood, his life during the trial and the lives of other important people in his life during the span of his life. Shurtleff talked about his Dred’s family, his life, and his struggles. It was very interesting to me how well he was treated and how much he was respected by his owners. The picture was painted of a model slave. Indeed, I think he would have had to have had a sparkling character, charm, and work ethic to make his battle go as far as it did.

The one thing that surprised me was that he didn’t win his freedom. I thought he had–obviously, I didn’t retain much from my high school history class :)Am I Not a Man? closed with several chapters describing the ramifications of the Dred Scot trial leading up and including the Civil War.

Mark L. Shurtleff took what could have been a dry subject and made it memorable. I recommend this book to any homeschooling student in high school. A mature middle schooler could also gain a lot. It’s very clean and not very violent. If you are interested in factual American historical fiction this would be right up your alley!

My apologies to the blog tour company for failing to post this review on time.

Just Ask! {31 Days}

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I’ve been doing a TON of shopping lately. I had it done in October last year due to an impending birth and loved it.

Recently, a toy I purchased on Amazon for $56 was on Zulily for $34. I got right on Amazon to ask about canceling my order. I missed the deadline but they told me to refuse the shipment.

In another case, I ordered a set of DVD’s. Three days later, I got a catalog from where I purchased them and asked for a credit. No answer yet, but it could save me $10. After all, it never hurts to ask!

Have you ever saved just by asking?

Find A Coupon Code {31 Days}

One of the quickest ways that I save money, especially on a purchase I need to make anyway, is to go to Retail Me Not and check for a coupon code.

Just today, I found a code for a random store that had the cheapest Carhartt Overalls I could find! It saved me $11.50 to look for 2 minutes.

Where do you get coupon codes?

Use Google Shopping {31 Days}

My husband is in need of some warm duds to blow snow & such in. We ventured to THE place for some Carhartt Overalls, but had no luck.

I went to the manufacturers website to get a baseline price before I went shopping–$180 shipped! I did a Google search. If you scroll down a bit in your search results, you will see a header that says “google shopping results” with 4 or 5 photos under it.

By spending about 30 minutes following a lead or two, I saved almost $75. Not a bad hourly wage!

How do you find low prices on things you need?
