The Christmas Dog by Melody Carlson is a lovely little story about what Christmas is all about.  Betty Kowalski (probably a relation somehow :D), has become kind of sour.   Her husband passed away and her children have moved away and she has an obnoxious neighbor who seems to be tearing apart the house behind hers and setting it all outside on the lawn.   To top things off, his mangy mutt keeps doing his doggy business on her favorite tree and scratching at her door!

The Christmas Dog has some unexpected events that aren’t even alluded to on the cover.   It’s a lovely story of family, trust, and assumptions all brought to light by a mangy little dog.   It’s a heartwarming story for the holidays and it makes me want to make the extra effort to reach out to my distant family.   It’s a quick read and the characters are well rounded and not contrived at all.   I recommend this book for anyone, especially those who maybe aren’t looking forward to the holidays.  I think this book will help!
