I’ve decided to join in the fun of Read Aloud Thursday @ Hope is the Word. I do, after all, read books aloud all the time. And I do write a bit about homeschooling and other learning resources for children and think this will be a great fit for y’all (don’t tell Bones I used that phrase!).
For the last week, we’ve been reading Clifford, the Big Red Dog. 
I don’t recall being very interested in Clifford when I was young, but my 18mo daughter LOVES dogs. And this books has dogs, lots & lots of dogs. She gets to practice saying doggie, doggie over and over (and over and over). Then she starts pointing out where all the dogs in the neighborhood live and points out the dogs in the book. She likes this book so much, that i bought it before I even took the library book back 🙂
We’ve also been enjoying the Big Red Barn (board book). If you’ve never read it, it’s a perfect book for a 1-2 year old. 
It rhymes nicely, doesn’t have too many words per page and it has animal noises. LOTS of them :). Hens, cows, horses, pigs, dogs, cats, mice, you name it! It’s also a pretty good book for using before bed, since all the animals go to sleep at the end. It’s a regular in our “go to sleep” rotation. Plus it’s in a board book format so the little ones can look at all the illustrations which are just detailed enough to be fun, but not so busy that they can’t take it all in.
The last book that we’ve been reading is Richard Scarry’s Favorite Storybook Ever. I’ve never heard of this particular one before and it mixes favorites from his Best Storybook Ever and What do People DO All Day? 
She is SOOO into animals these days and loves pointing out the different characters in the book. It has lots of different little pictures and just enough words to go with each one. There’s enough detail to share all sorts of neat things that Lil’ Bit hasn’t heard of or seen before.

My girls have always liked Big Red Barn, too. It is a sweet one. Clifford is STILL a favorite with my girls, as well.
For some reason, I’ve never introduced my girls to Richard Scarry. I need to change that.
