Every year on 9.19 is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. Yes, it even has an official website. According to the website, this article, written by Dave Barry is how the whole thing started.

Yesterday I suggested to my husband, Mr. Pirates of the Caribbean himself, that we should all have pirate costumes & celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day by acting like pirates all day. One big make believe session for the kiddos. He actually rolled his eyes at me! The nerve! I am, however, the one home all day and we will do it anyway. I’m thinking about going to the halloween stores & picking up some clearance costumes when they are marked down–if there are any, of course.

The site has some great pirate links. Here are my favorites to do with your kids:

Here you can create & print a treasure hunt, make party invitations & print coloring book pages. There is also some historical information about pirates.

This wasn’t what I had in mind to link to but it’s SOOOOOOO cool, I had to include it.
