I’ve been having a amazing literary adventures this year. I’ve read the book “The Little Guide to Your Well-Read Life” and have been taking it’s advice.

I’ve read some excellent books this year. I was enthralled with “Memoirs of a Geisha.” The description of the book was just phenomenal. The author did a wonderful job of showing the emotion and the struggle of Sayuri’s life. The description–well, it made me feel like I was there, walking around Japan.

I also discovered the Silent Planet trilogy by C.S. Lewis: Out of the Silent Planet, Paralandra, and That Hideous Strength. I have not yet completed Paralandra and haven’t gotten to That Hideous Strength yet, but I devoured Out of the Silent Planet.

I finished a book called Good in Bed. I think it could be classified as Chick Lit. It was so familiar it was both disturbing and hopeful. The premise of the story is about a fat chick journalist and her journey of discovery and self-acceptance. Stories like that always make me feel good even though I’m not “fat” anymore. I really liked it and will probably read another book by her in the near future.

I just finished a book borrowed from Tony, our friend who is coming back on 6/23/06. Excellent timing (serious, not sarcastic). It was called Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. I read it while I was on the last leg of our vacation in Indonesia and on the flight home. I picked it up again this weekend and finished it. It was a very fun read. Not life changing or anything but very fun. In the vein of Harry Potter in that it deals in Magic, however, as the story line, it’s very different. It isn’t necessarily a fight of good versus evil and there is little fighting in it. It’s written for adults and is very adult in the thinking and motivation of the characters. Very fun to read.

I’m in the middle of No God But God. I’m going to find another copy and resume reading it eventually. I started reading this one at Tony’s house also.

On my current list: What Color is Your Parachute? and Who Moved My Cheese? I’ve been tired of hearing all the hype and I’ve decided that I need to read them. I’ve flipped through them and I like what I see so far. I’m looking forward to exploring what color my parachute is :). Plenty of things Al and I can use in our constant quest to explore the world and our life options!

Enough for today, I guess…
